howth pier/lighthouse

hi all,was planning to go to howth one of the days and was wondering are the macks in yet?? i no theyre at balskadden but wanted to try the lighthouse...are they there?

Hi Ian, Your best bet would be to try the east pier, just before the bend.
Was around here for a few hours over the past couple of weeks, gave up a few.

thanks for replying,was out there today,and got 30 macks between 3 of us....all great sizes though!! done some night fishing last night too,only got 8...but the freezer is starting to get full....!

Ian,did you catch the Mackerel on the feathers?,was there any caught with floats?,wouldn't mind giving it a shot down there but only if there is space for a float fisherman :lol:

Good stuff Ian, well done.

Richie, not really the kind of spot i would recommend floating from. You'd want to be at the head of the pier. The knuckle of the pier is very rough ground and currents are fairly fierce so a drifting float would be a problem.
You should give spinning a bash from here, good sport on them especially with the light gear.

Nice one Ian. I love night fishing for mac. Small kids rod. Light line and a float with a night light glued to it. GREAT FUN :D

tanks lads!! must agree with wes on this one,the float would be washed away in that tied,i was feathering and spinning but was just taking on feathers...a man there was floating no macks but wrasse if thats any use??
