anyone any tips on fishing behind teelin pier on the rocks.what can i catch and what baits to use.would it also be worth bringing some heavy gear for congers.thanks

If your going to Teelin dont bother with the pier, unless its a night, where you will get strap conger, whiting, coalies the odd pollock, dogs and the odd dab. During the day mackerel and mullet.

From the rocks plenty of mackerel for bait.
First 25 yards is all rough before turning mixed before going to sandy ground. Really deep water where you can pick up almost anything: pollock, coalies, wrasse, dogfish, whiting, ling, rockling, congers, gurnards and most of the flats. Plenty of good conger here, anything up to 20lb and possibly even bigger!! A drop net might be handy, you will need something to lift the conger. All the usual baits will work here, but for handyness, mackerel will do and catch most things here, maybe bring some rag or lug, squid is good for the congers.....

Ragworm literally dropped down the rockface will lift you wrasse, poor cod and pouting, the last 2 being super livebaits for conger also.

fishing from the pier produces lots at night-flatties,pollack,coalie,wrasse,gurnard,mackerel and doggies.there is a guy who runs fishing trips from the pier called paddy and he will take you out to catch many different species.as for the conger i have caught many out of the old section of the pier before they extended it using flappers and heavy gear.there is a set of steps which will help you if u get hooked into a conger and a gaf or large net is a must!

I've heard of congers caught during the day in the deep water at the rocks, and I've seen a few landed at night time from the 1st, older part of the pier as Christina says. This older part has cracks and crevices in it where the conger live - so Paddy Byrne tells me anyway.

That man is a character - an absolute legend! If you want a good days cráic and plenty of fishing, head out with him on his boat.

You'll be sore laughing at him within ten minutes!

As I said, the pier is very quite, wrasse, pollock and flats are quite scarce at the pier. I have fished it numerous times with little success, although, I have had pollock, coalies, dogs, dabs, scad, mackerel, loads of strap at night from the wall at the elbow of the pier, where the old pier ended, and well over 20 whiting in a night session. Everything as I said was quite small apart from the odd good whiting and countless dogs. During the day Ive had conger 10lb + from the rocks, just a straight drop, obviously they will be there at night and possibly alot bigger. With plenty of bait and alot of time you can catch alot of species here at the teelin rocks, but any good day during the summer is a pain in the ass with mackerel bashers!!! Messy f**kers aswell!!!!!!! :x
