Bunmahon Beach

Mon Jul 03, 2006 12:55 pm

Hi lads,

I was fishing from Bunmahon beach last night with my son and there were fish jumping all over the place. As usual I caught nothing  , but I'd like to know what those fish were. I presume sea-trout - anyone know?

Regards

Guys,

Looking for Camping in the area for the weekend of the 14th  Bringing the missus so a site that has toilets and showers would be great. Googled a spot called Copper Coast Holiday Park that is supposed to be on Bunmahon Beach. Anyone know if it's still there and if it's any good?

Hi MAC

I think I have driven past it several times, never stayed there, its just oustide the town, looked pleasant enough. Not much of a walk to the beach, maybe 1 mile at most...

Mac,
Not sure about the one you mentined but there are a few in Tramore one slightly outside on the coast road would be http://www.newtowncove.com/ which is about a mile out of Tramore close to Newtown, Guillamene, Boatstrand, Garrus, Annestown, Kilfarassey, and lots of other places to fish going in the direction of Bonmahon. I believe it is of good quality but never had reason to try it. Close to the famous Metal Man and Rocketts Bar for Ribs, Colcannon and Crubeens, if you are close to the pub call in.

Thanks guys,

Newtown Cove is a very nice site. I've stayed there a few times. It's booked out this weekend though  . I'll try Dungarvan. Personally I fond Tramore a bit too busy and am hoping to find something a bit more quite.

Bunmahon Beach

Just out of interest I would say that they were sea-trout because of the jumping. But about 6/7 years ago I was fishing a morning incoming tide on Bunmahon beach casting about 70 yards standing in the surf. As the next breaker crested in front of me a shoal of Bass (mainly schoolies) could be seen within the wave. It was a beautiful morning and some site, they passed quite quickly and were gone before I could react. I felt that I could have touched them and feel privilaged to have seen it. It also serves to remind how easily you can over cast for them.

I was in Barley Cove in West Cork 2 years ago and saw the same thing, it was incredible. I was able to wade out to within around 3/4 metres of them, clear as crystal in the wave alright, hundreds upon hundreds of them. Amazing stuff. Of course, that evening after offloading the missus I headed there with the beach caster, to no avail though :( ! Some sight all the same.
