If it's thornies you're after, fish Fahan two or so hours either side of low water when the channel running along the beach is within easy casting distance. This is where the rays seem to feed.
Mackeral is the only bait you'll need, although to be fair they are caught on sandeel too, just not in the same numbers. You'll also pick up the odd rogue dogfish, gurnard or flounder on mackeral more readily than sandeel.
Weather doesn't seem to matter - I've seen them caught in all conditions.
When you get to the Marina at low water you'll see about 700/800 yards to your right that there is an "elbow" the beach. You'll know what I mean when you see it. The bouys marking the channel will be almost sitting dry on the beach at low water here. Anywhere around here is the spot to fish.
I wouldn't even attempt to fish it at the weekends, what with boats/jetskis/windsurfers, etc all coming and going from the Marina.
Good luck.
