Hi guys,
I was wondering what your preference is in a beach rod for the rough stuff - conger bashing - tope etc and why? (Make/ model)
What is the rating in relation to weight it throws?
Your perfect set up if you had no money worries? (rod and reel)8)

Personally for a rough ground Mission I'd use the Century G5 SuperSport(14') with the Penn Supermag.... :D

I use a greys mercury with either a diawa sl30 or shimano speedmaster ,plenty of back bone for throwing out 6oz lead plus big bait !
a reel with a good high retrieve is hand for winching gear over kelp and rock .

I use a Greys Nitra and either a sl20 or an sl30. Have an Abu 700 as well but find the lever drag and level wind mechanisms make it a tricky so and so to cast.

i'm just a lazy sod.. i use the one rod for all terrain...
my good old trusty moonraker supreme..
and with a few minor adjustments to my 7ht i made a few years back (put on a larger handle) it seems to do the trick..

I use either an Abu Suveran XP, or a Penn NorEaster, which both have a fair bit of backbone, teamed with a SL20 or 30 or a 525 Mag. A reel with a high retrieve ratio is a must in my opinion.
These seem to be able to tackle the very roughest of ground no problem, just have to put up with the inevitable end tackle loses fishing rough stuff.

Aye Lee - that conger you promised me did not appear at the 'special' mark
I've yet to see that Nitra being tested as well :? :?
Although the Kompressor was bent a wee bit last week with a double shot of dogs

penn copperhead and 525 supermag ...very hard to beat

SurfBlaster RuffStuff with 525mag/Supermag....god I love that set up :D Casts like a rocket and it could pull the feckin plug if you had to..... Bite detection not bad either. £225 Stg will buy you the package from most UK dealers so wont break the bank either.

Hi guys....this is my first time posting.
As for the heavy stuff, I am using a Zziplex Dymic HST paired with an Avet SX 5.1. Noticed that with a stiff tip of the HST, terminal losses are minimized, as compared to my other mates who r using softer tip rods.
Do note that as for the Avet, magging is needed coz its too fast out of the box. Even for a lever drag reel, it can free-spool for over a minute! With magnets, this tough reel can hit (tested) 160m using OTG on the field.
