Lahinch / Liscannor Plaice Quest

Hi all,
What a fantastic forum you have, I've learnt a whole lot more reading through your posts and tips.

I used to fish Lahinch / Cregg / Green Island many years ago, I still get back there once or twice a year but ass the years progress the fish have been steadily disappearing (maybe the shore hugging trawlers have had something to do with it). So from catching decent bass and lots of plaice 15 years ago, these days its a struggle to get a fish.

I'm back in Lahinch again next weekend, and plan to get as much fishing in as possible, I always have the blackhead option if i get desperate for some action, but I really want to bag a few plaice from the shore. So suitably stocked up with lug, razors, sandeel, mackerel.............any advice on where to head for( in the locality) , best tides, times, baits etc. ??

For plaice, bang it out as far as you can with lugworm, fresh is ideal and you will need to wade out a fair bit to help with the distance. The expert here on the venue is Neilus, a local. Send him a private message (PM) and he'll put your right. You could have all sorts of problems with the surfer dudes so I would look for an evening tide, late evening...

Like Korean said distance is a must in my opinion on the plaice in Leah inch as I find I only caught them when wading out and pendulum casting as far as you could or over head thump what ever gets you the distance mackerel catches them as well as lug and long snoods work best as the baits on the bottom are the best option.

I might be around if the weather is OK as Ill have my son with me and might take him fishing if the weather is nice how was Green island fishing when you used to fish it years ago it looks like a good venue for cod during a cold calm spell in the winter as yet I ha vent fished it during the winter but caught plenty of wrasse Pollock and dogs during the summer and on a good hot calm day after a few weeks hot weather the beagle still come in cruising in front of the rocks they are majestic to see.................

where abouts do you head for, in the past we used to fish off the end of the prom, sometimes even from the steps at the top end, I've experimented with the lahinch side of the inagh river but no success, I've seen a few local lads on the Liscannor side .... anywhere you'd recommend?

Green Island was usually a summer venue, mackerel and pollack mainly, not too many "calm" days out there in the winter! Never hear dof anyone taking any cod from there, met a Dutch fella who managed to get one off Blackhead last November though. Good to hear the porbeagles are still cruising around, thinking of taking some mates from London out on the boat from Liscannor in Sept. to do a bit of chumming :-)
