to keep rag for weeks first buy cat litter trays shallow.put about 20med rag or 12large in tray and barley cover the rag with sea water about half way up their bodys put in fridge at a setting of 1 onthe fridge dial.have a supply of sea water stored in the fridge at all times at the same tempeture check out worms every day do not put broken worms in the trays as their blood is very acidic and will kill the rest only store worms that are complete with tails.i have stored king rag for 3months doing this with no problem.you can store whites the same way. lug wrap tightly in 3 sheets of paper in small packs about 30 worms and change paper every day will keep for a week in the fridge this way.if you need any info on any baits pm me anytime

in fairness to the guys in the shops, they will mostly all try to sell you the freshest bait they can, the problem sometimes is that they only sell you the bait that they get in from the diggers, sometimes it might not be in great nick upon arrival

In fairness, we probably all have had issues with bait we bought at some stage or other.
I would have to disagree with you BigPhil on this one  If the bait diggers are supplying dodgy bait, or even mixing old with new, the tackle shop should really refuse to take it. :( It isn't doing there custom any good at all supplying bait that isn't 100%. Word of mouth is a very strong media.
I myself get mind from L&G tackle at Glenoe. Only once did I have a problem but as I was in a hurry I didn't check it. I mentioned it to Grahame the next time and it was sorted there and then. Again a happy camper :D

I have only had a problem with some Rag once from Henry's Tackle in Dublin. I mentioned it to Henry next time I was in and it was sorted.

Don't forget - try not to handle lug with your bare fingers, it's the heat of your fingers that burns their skins and makes them explode. You'll notice that if handled with wet industrial gloves far fewer worms suffer from expansion of the body ending in their quick demise.

The Pat fella always tries to give you one tub of rubbish and one tub of decent. You just have to mention you dont want the tidlers.
More often than not, I dig my own.

N+G, i know where you are coming from but, if the shop has orders to fill, then even the bait aint the best it should be taken and sold to fill orders but at a reduced price. at ther end of the day its better going fishing with some dodgy bait rather than none sometimes.
personaal i very very rarely ever have a problem with the bait i do get from my suppliers, as if i get dodgy rag or lug more than a couple of times from the one source/shop, i dont order it again from them.
its best if possible to support those who you can rely on to supply you the freshest bait possible and the size which you ask for.

Hi Merv,
You can keep ragworm in seaweed in newspaper provided you change the newspaper every day and remove any dodgy ones. I have kept rag like this for 5 days. You must keep them in a cool place I use shed at end of back garden missus wont let me near the fridge lol.
