6500 ct sports mag

Hello all.
I have for the first time opened my 6500 ct sports mag to give it a proper clean and oil. I have the spool out and bearings cleaned etc.

When you take off the end plate (with handle attached) you can see into the gears. What do I do about cleaning/lub in here.

It depends on how ambitious you are. If you are happy that all is well inside then add a small amount of oil to the gearing. But every now and then you need to take off the handle and star drag. Take off the base plate and clean and relube all the gears.

well i would advise you that you take it apart very slow and make sure that you cleen every thing i wd40 mine then wipe the wd40 of Ange before you oil it with the proper abu oil on it i have taken my mag elite apart all most to the point were its just a cage and bits in a bowl one thing i have noticed is that the gears are only brass plate and its copper under that http://www.abugarcia.com

The gears need to be greased, not oiled. WD40 is great for driving out moisture etc but it will break down the grease in the reel if you spray it inside that plate. If the reel is running smoothly without making grinding noises, i would say to leave it alone and just oil the bearings after a good clean out using lighter fluid.

If the reel is making nasty noises, then it is best to strip that side completely as sand will make a hell of a mess of the brass gears in no time. The ceramic drag washers and the metal ones that go between them need to also be cleaned with lighter fluid and left to dry before reassembly.

Basically, oil the bearings/spindle/end caps

lightly grease the gears and one way bearing ( if you clean it out too.

If you have never done one before, lay all the parts out in the order that they come off and it will be much easier to see what goes where.
