Wicklow/Ennereilly

Tue May 02, 2006 2:38 pm

I'm off to Wicklow this weekend and for a few days after. I was thinking of fishing the north beach in enereilly. High tide seems to be 7pm on the Sunday. Would it be better to fish high tide in daylight or a ebb/low tide at night. Will the southerly winds mix things up there.

Any other marks worth trying. Hows wicklow pier doing?

Sorry donagh, can't help you with the actual fishing but tought I'd let you know I finally found a contact for that tackle shop on Wicklow quay, they even have a website now  http://www.dogsrodsguns.com/view_doc.php?view_doc=2

Sorry Donagh, I have been off line for a few days this is too late to be useful now but maybe for the future. I find Any tide after dark is better than daylight

Its this weekend I'm heading up and staying for few day after. So not to late so keep the repies coming. BTW its the beach to the north of the pennycomequick river I'm interested in as opposed to the signposted one.

Thats the beach I'd fish too donagh. Id aim to get there just as its getting dark. Sandeel at about 70-80 yds. Worth bringing peeler too if you can get it, should be smoothie pups and a few better sized fish showing now.

Thanks for your replies,

I hope to fish it Monday or Tuesday. So if you see a fella with a 20 year old silstar rod trying to cast more than 40 yards with the blooming thing thats me. I'm off internet from until the end of next week and I'll put a report up then.

North Beach eh! I've always tried the one thats signposted (south of the bridge). Just wondering lads is it possible to access the north beach without a long walk with tonnes of gear. Cheers!!

Hows it going alby. You can park just off the road about 2 minute walk from the north beach. If your coming from Brittas bay direction you cross a small bridge that runs over a small river about a mile or two before the area that is signposted. Well theres a small car parking area about half a mile before you get to that bridge, its on the left handside as you travel south and looks out over the rocky area between the north and south beach. Once youve parked up the entrance to the north beach is a 100 yard walk back the road (north) down a muddy track.

Thanks for that Sean, I think I do actually know the place you mean, will attack this place with renewed effort this week, I think some daytime flattie fishing over the weekend and some night next week I'll hit Enereilly with a bucket of peelers,

Just wondering, what rig do you find best for the Smuts??

Fri May 05, 2006 6:00 pm

Might join you next week alby if your up for it. For the smoothies I use just 2 or 1 hook clipped down rigs nothing special. Snoods about 18 inches long and 1/0 or 2/0 hooks depending on the size of the crab baits.

Brilliant Sean, that sounds great. Just name the day and I'm sure I'll be able to make it. Towards Weds/Thurs high tide seems to be around dusk, so these could be very promising, anyway just let me know and hopefully we'll get a few runs!!

Just in case you missed my report I added it on to Pats. Ended up with around more than 30 dogs in the session (I lost count) but I would of got more if I'd fished it with a 3 hook trace all the time but kept trying for ray and was fishing one rod most of the time.

Its pity I didn't get anything more interesting but at least there were fish there. Thanks for all your help andI should be back up in August.
