ROD HOLDALL

Just after a little advice on a good rod bag must be CHEAP,padded and fit to take a 7` rod section. :) :)

well to be honest you will not get a good one for cheap i think Penn are doing a good rod bag at the min i think its in the £20 mark tho you can do what i have done in the past go to the pluming shop and buy some "1 1/2" inch pipe or 2 inch and just get 2 stop ends for them and there you go rod tube for next to nothing or if you want to be really tight and there is a construction site Near you go and pinch some (at night)and don't get cough i Thu my old rod tube out or i would have sent it to you my rods worth £175+ so you can under stand me getting the Penn one

is it just a bag for a single rod you mean? i think century may do ones but aint sure if they are padded or not...
or a rod holdall? most rod holdalls/quivers aint padded apart from the imax one that i can think of - it runs around £25 or there abouts, the most popular ones used around these parts are either titan, greys ,or mustad and are cheaper than the imax (all around £15-20 mark)

Sorry guys i know i said cheap i should have said reasonable looking for something to hold a couple of rods and a tripod.My main concern at the minute is my new rod has a 6` butt and a 7` tip witch in a normal bag leaves the last foot of the tip unprotected and me close to nervous breakdown each time i put it in the car (not an expensive rod but don`t want it ending up a three piece to soon) :oops:

I got a great one in Argos plus it comes with a fishing bag too!,it's a carp rod bag and it holds all my stuff,tripods,seat,beachbuddy etc,does a great job all for 50 Euro.

Hi the majority of rod bags will have the rod tip sticking out of it at the top. I have to agree with big Phil. I have just received the new Imax competition rod holder and as far as I'm concerned it's the best one for me. 8) It has 2 individually padded sides and can take upto 8 rods :shock: , (now thats extreme, what would you do with taking 8 rods down onto the beach?) :roll: Anyway I can put 2 rods down one side and my beach buddy down the other with the tripod attached to the side leaving both hands free to carry whatever you like. A fantastic idea if you ask me and also the shoulder strap is padded so it doesn't dig in.

Right or wrong, I put the tip of the rod to the bottom of the bag, so that it is protected by the butt. The joint of the tip section is thicker and so is less vunerable at the top of the rod bag.

I would do it the opposite way to Ian myself, reasoning being that if the tip is poking out the top you can see where it is all the time and tend to take a bit more care of it. If you want something cheap and cheerful to tide you through for a while until you make your mind up properly, take a squizz round you nearest Lidl and see if they have any left, I bought one last year and have found it mighty handy with loads of room for a couple of rods, tripod etc. Not 100% ideal but well worth the pittance they were charging for them.

Penn are doing a good rod tube the new one is like a fly rod holder if you know what that's like only bigger the biggest is 2.4 meters witch i think should hold yours and its 11cm in side with padding at either end

seen the penn and imax at the weekend in glasgow angling centre, i like trhe look of the imax alrite! well padded all round, also seen the penn rod tube, i'd advise it for transporting a rod in say a plane or something but overkill for general angling purposes as it doesnt have anywhere for tripod, brolly, b.buddy etc

i wouldnt put a rod section in the bag tip down either because you are putting an increase on the risk of cracking the tip eye, whereas if you put the spigot end in first, it is tougher and should withstand any minor knocks it may get.

yea that's what i was thinking mate i have went throw maybe 4-5 rods in the past 3-4 years you know they were only cheep Shakespeare rods. but now i have a good Penn rod i want it to last me a good 10 years and to me it looks like some thing that might at a push hold 2 or 3 rods 11cm whats that in old money anyone know well i don't know what Penn are selling them for i have seen them on e-bay at 19.99 + 7.99 p+p and that's a buy it now price last time i looked they had 48 of them for sale
