How long would i have to prebait an area for mullet

I know (or have heard) that you can prebait a area that has mullet with something like bread and the mullet will become accustomed to feeding on it and then you can catch them.

Has anybody tried this?

was it sucessful?

how long would I have to prebait an spot before fishing it?

could I just do it once a day?

when i lived in dublin i used to catch mullet on bread on the liffey just before euston station facing the barricks bring about two fresh pans and when you see the fish keep feeding the bread to them on the tide for at least half an hour .once you get them feeding they are easy tocatch .use a match rod 5lb line a bubble float and a flourocarbon hook link of 4lbs grease the hook link to help it float about 3ft long of a hook link.fish the dodder anywhere from islandbridge down to sandymount mullet up to 7lb caught in the dodder every year.if you need any more help.pm me anytime

Prebaiting with bread can work but it is not always successful. My theory is that where mullet accept water or land based activity as a natural part of their enviroment, they can be induced to feed on a regular bait supply. Therefore, harbours and areas where humans and birds are active such as the Dodder and Liffey all produce mullet to groundbait and pre-baiting. "Wild" mullet are a different proposition. While these fish may investigate a constant food source, as soon as a float or the shadow of a line crosses them, they bolt for the horizon !. I use this theory to explain why I never landed a mullet from Kilbarrick despite spending several summers groundbaiting daily with bread for the thousands of fish that pass through here. Any references to my angling ability at the time will not be entertained.

The place I am hoping to fish is the Blue pool near barrow Golf course near Tralee in Co Kerry. It is a deep water mark in the estuary It's Regularly fished for Flounder mackerel and Bass I was Practicing my fly casting there 2 days this week and it did not seem to disturb the mullet too much. (Didn't catch anything either.) The place is regularly fished and people go for walks around there so the mullet might be used to people. There are certainly alot of fish there. During the summer I have seen the pool shimmering from fish chasing fry around it. It's also a lovely spot.

Apparently there are flounder there to 2 lbs

might try it with ragworm on small hooks.
