Guys

where would people recommend i spend a week shore angling.

coming in mid August for a week with my son. kind of a last hurrah before he finds out about wine, women and song and is lost to angling for a few years. :(

we don't care what we fish for as long as its NOT LSD's.

spent 2 weeks last year down in waterford and had a great time so much so i offered a norway trip and he turned that down in favour of Ireland. :o

where now is the burning question.

thanks :?:

If you went to Waterford last year, why not try someting completely different & go to Westport & Clew Bay.

Lots of fishing, some stunning views...............

Co Clare would be a good spot or Co Kerry but Clare has the advantage of having all the different sea angling options which are close to Kilkee like the shannon estuary and rock fishging as well as the surf for the bass.............

I would definitely try the south or west coast, the east coast fishing simply doesnt compare. From West Cork up to Mayo. Make sure you do your research first though.

Hi iona

No disrespect but to fish the east coast in August would be a traversty.

I would pick a centre where you have access to lots of different fishing and sheltered marks irrespective of the weather conditions / wind direction. Off the top of my head I would recommend Clare (around Kilkee / Kilrush) accessed via Shannon airport if you are not driving , the Belmullet peninsula in Mayo (around Belmullet itself) or Achill island [accessed via Knock airport] or any of the big peninsulas in the SW around Cork and Kerry [accessed via Cork or Kerry (Farranfore) airport].

I would have recommended Waterford too but you've got that T-shirt already! You could not go far wrong with the Dingle or Iveragh peninsulas but be warned in mid-August they will be busy. If you fancy dingle give Bob Moss on the Veals website a call as he is the resident expert, and give the lad any of his books to read as preparation and to whet his appetite. It being fairly busy (in Irish terms) there might be good or bad depending on your point of view - good for the chat etc.
