Hello,
Apologies if it is not the right place to post this question. I''m new to fishing in Ireland, and I would appreciate the advise. All my fishing experience is on the Mediterranean and it's different ball game.
I'm using Mackerel large pieces as bait on 1/0 hooks, Fishing off a pier. I'm catching spotted dogfish, which is great fun, but nothing else is biting. is is it possible to catch other species with the Mackerel bait and 1/0 hook or should I change my bait and rig ?
Thanks

Try dropping half mackerel on heavy line 4 or 5 feet away from the pier on incoming tide and possibly get some decent size conger eels.

Best option is to get talking to a local angler and find out what the local species and tactics are. All piers, like all fishing marks, are different. There's no general technique that covers all.

I agree with Hugo. Bait depends on mark and target species. Local tackle shops can help but mostly local anglers. Experience is best guide!
