Tackle shop or veals?

Thu Mar 30, 2006 3:41 pm

Hi again. 6 weeks ago I ordered a travel rod from my local tackle shop and they finally got it in yesterday. :)
Went in to collect it and after handing over my money and bringing it home discovered it was the wrong one.
It was 7ft casting 5-20g, I had asked for 8 or 9ft casting 10-30g. Brought it back and they took the rod as they said they had others interested in it and also kept my cash. I said I would like them to order in the correct one, he says no probs but it will take about 4 more weeks to arrive.
I said I'll confirm which size I'll finally go for tomorrow and ring them, this bought me some time to do research.

Now, Veals can have the rod I want to me in 5-7 working days for 3 euro less than I'd buy it in the tackle shop for, including P&P.
I had originally gone for the tackle shop as I don't particularaly like buying over the internet and decided to support them on this occasion.

So, which do you think I should now buy from, Veals or Tackle shop?
The tackle shop still has my money which is pain. :x
All comments welcome,

go back and get your money, the same has happened to me.

And next time check before you buy, don't mean to sound bad but you'ld be supprised on the amount of people that go home with what ever and put away until they need it only to find out its the wrong one and the 14 day return policy has long passed.. even though most places will accept returns after the 14 days, the chance that the recipt is still in existance is questionable.

Depends when you want/need the rod. I'm impatient and want everything yesterday, but if you don't need it urgently, you could leave it to your local shop. If you're not happy with the wait or your tackle shop for getting the wrong rod, go for Veals.

Hiya,
You could try contacting these guys in galway, here's a link to a similar rod:

http://cgi.ebay.ie/Fladen-Universal-Tel ... dZViewItem

I'm almost 100% sure that they were recently selling a 9-10foot 20-50gram version of the fladen rod.

Thanks for the comments.
Another thing: I didn't actually get a receipt and when I told them that, they replied, thats ok we know your name and face. Being 16 and still a bit intimidated by the tackle shop enviroment I left it at that. I don't think I have ever gotten a receipt from there.

The rod is a shimano exage mini tele, scroll down this page: https://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/Spinning.html
Thanks for the link o_o_o but had my heart on the above.

I rarely make a big purchase and am bying the reel and braid for this over the internet so wanted to support the little man once. However like you IDPearl am impatient and the wrong order has annoyed me, so stevecrow Iv'e learned my leason on checking b4 handing over cash.

But the rod is for spinning and super light ledger work so mabye there won't be much call for it now ( but that doesn't mean I wouldn't use it anyway ).
I think I'm leaning towards the tackle shop (don't know why  ) but if they get it wrong again, they'll only be a bait shop for me. Still anyone with anything to say please do. Thanks.

why did you let them keep your money?to be honest ive had asked for it back until the one you wanted came in, its an easy way for them scare you from getting the rod elsewhere quicker.
i generally have no problems with my local shops, they can normally match or better mail order prices on most things anyhow so i save the p+p.

cash

easy to say now but never hand over cash untill you happy with item and are leaving the shop.
Looks like a way to stop you going else were.

After the way the have went about it and the lenght the wait on the rod is i would support another tackle shop or go mail order.

go back tell them wait to long get cash and go on. if they continue tell them they made mistake not you. and if they refuse to return cash go to police and trading standerds.

Yeh, I'm going back to the shop tomorrow to ask for my money back. I'll still ask them to get the rod for me.
While I was in the shop, apparently one of the workers was over at the ditributor so I was told he could possabley be able to get the rod today and said to ring later to see. I rang them later and as you guessed he couldn't get it so said he would order one.

You see the rod looked fine and with one or two other customers in a small shop smiling at you and the rod I just didn't check the rod enough to make sure it was the right casting weight, stupid I know.

Parents are unconvincable to buying over the net, so I have to buy one of those 3v voucher things which are a bit of a waste of a few bob if I want to buy online. Next tackle shop is Rory's or Henry's so about 1hr 10mins away.
Cheers for any input,

Go for Veals

I regularly use Veals for a good reliable service and have never been disappointed: good value, good quality and good service. Turnaround from ordering online to receipt is first class.

I tend to make an order along with a few mates. That way we can split the postage (especially for large or heavy orders or for rods).

Glasgow Angling Centre is not bad either, although they sometimes run low on stock (always check first). They have lower postage costs than Veals for large items.

I placed an order for a new rod with veals on Monday and received the rod in perfect condition yesterday.

The tackle shop seem to be messing you around. At least get your money back and if you can, go elsewhere.

Tackle shops will rob you blind nowdays... I used Mikes tackleshop (mail orders) to get Mustad rucksak recently. Got it in 2 working days + guy rang me from Edinburgh to make sure I got it...

Called into tackle shop today. They said they would order the correct one this time. Both this time and last time I brought them in a sheet from the shimano website of the rod I want.

Asked for my money back but they said that this time they needed me to leave a deposit, so I did.
They allready sold the other (wrong) rod.
One of the guys is nice to deal with the other one isn't, it better be the right one that arrives this time. thanks again,
