smoothhounds & spurs?????

is there any shore marks around the north coast where smoothhounds or spur-dogs can caught any help would be great :) :)

i do believe that with experimentation on more marks suitable for smoothies up here they willl turn up, trouble is that the same marks are fished week in week out and the possible venues for the smoothies, ie the right ground and tides are not tried or looked for by the majority of anglers

as for spurdog, some venues do throw up the very odd one from time to time but they are kept quiet by most, perhaps if the marks they are caught from from the boat are tried as close to as possible from the shore in thwe right conditions with the right methods they may well show, who knows
they appear in the scottish inshore lochs due to the immense depth and tidal flow in them, unfortunately there are very few , if any venues like this here.

the spurs caught in scotland are not always caught in the deep spots. :D
recently i have a fair amount of success targeting shallow areas near to deeper spots.

work out when the boat angling for them in your area is best and from there you will know they are in the area. from that i would pick a spot that looked likely. a chart of the area will help or some local boating knowledge.
pick a big night tide on the no moon cycle. this gives the fish confidence to come shallow.

pulley rigs with wire or very strong biting piece is the best method.
