Lidl reel - funny looking yoke

Assortment of fishing gear in Lidl next Thursday, might be worth a look.

Have to agree with K@ on the reel.

but this thing has to be handy for loading multipliers.

I was just pointing it out for a bit of fun. I might be a novice to angling and to this forum, but I'm mildly offended/embarrassed that someone would think I was gonna buy it! (This said in the same light hearted manner that my original post was intended!)

I'll presume you're referring to Lidl and not suggesting I'm trying "a maneuver" as the the Yank online dictionary puts it. :lol:

The term ploy wasn't directed at you, it was directed at the design of the reel, I also didn't imply anywhere that I thought you yourself were going to purchase the said reel.

As you say mate, a Spinner's a Spinner, and Reel with funny bits sticking out of it, is a reel with funny bits sticking out of it! lol

Do you reckon the tripod is any use for 9.99?,wouldn't say it would last longterm but might do for an emergency?,also might find some use for the float set too.I wouldn't go near any of the reels or the rods,line etc but there might be one or two pieces that could come in handy.Anyway it's more for novice's and kids to get started so fair play for encouraging fishing.Gonna pop down and have a butchers though.

Those rod rests are pretty poor. The money you'd save would be offset on rod ring repairs. At least all all the east Europeans can replace their broken rods. I met one of them in Kilteery in october with two broken rods still wasking away for Macks.

Yeah, there's no harm in a look if you're passing. I wouldn't get into a brawl over it! Waders and a box of spinners, floats are on my list to check out. Probably be the usual story - the place will be cleaned out by the time I get there so I'll have to console myself with a six pack of cheap beer.

Tripod is for river fishing I'd say, probably not beefy enough for a couple of beachcasters and only half the height of a beach tripod.

I can thank lidl's for getting me started again.
bought a telescopic spinning outfit last year when the fishing gear all came in which has led to the addiction to the sport I have now :!:

have since bought 4 ugly stiks amongst a mountain of other quality gear, although mostly for pike fishing.
can see a new beachcaster getting bought soon though.

the lidl rod still lives in the boot for opportune moments but the reel got binned almost straight away.

I'll be down for a look when it comes in next week.

a few years back there were a lot of places offering "reconditioned" Penn reals and they were real bargins i got 3 SS9500s for £60 and a longbeach (boat reel!?) for £25. but in general unless you only fish a couple of times a year, catch nothing and spend an hour washing the reel when you get home i would agree with K2.
that said my mates got a whole load of lidl lures last year and they tangled the weed as good as expensive ones!

when they had the fishin stuff last year i got the fishing scales/fillet knife combo. the handles came lose on the knives and the needle popped off the scales when we were weighing a conger (5lb at most) and it started to trash about. it did come with a chopping board though, which i still have :D . didnt really expect too much for me tenner though.

In a rush of blood at last years sale thingy, I bought one of those handheld portable fishfinder thing which I have yet to use, did anyone else get one of these and have they given it a try? Might take it out on boat next trip and compare it with the Garmin. I also picked up a couple of boxes of the pirks, they worked quite well (after replacing the trebles) when used as a weight for feathering macks/pollack from the rocks. Cant remember off the top of my head how much they were but I think they worked out cheaper than buying weights :shock:

None of the gear was worth fighting over I have to say :D Scales were a complete load of tat, knives not too bad but blunt as hell though. Waders lasted about 8 trips, never got round to putting the bivvy up yet. Supose its a classic case of getting what you pay for, the box the pirks came in is fantastic for plugs and jellies though so not all bad!

Seriously, that tripod looks interesting. There's a lot to be said for a small, lightweight tripod, even for the beach. I use a home-made collapsable affair for in-close stalking of bass on calm nights night with minimal lightweight ledgering gear.

For 9.99 it might be worth it, even if you butcher it by shortening the arms. The legs look telescopic so it would probably strap nicely to a ruck sack ...

i cant really complain about lidl.. got one of them fly rods last time they were in... caught myself loads of big pollack 3-6lbs down on the flats at blackhead... usually pull it out if i'm not catching any other way (the rod that is), (i mean the fly rod, Honestly...)

well i have to say lads i am buying 3 of the fly rod packages. used one of them while fishing with john quinlan. they are deadly and as good as anything I have for four or 5 times the price.

I think you'll find that what was on sale in the english lidl was maybe a bit better looking than what goes on sale in the Ireland/NI ones.

The tripods! :lol: Someone really caught onto them! I've seen loads of them on ebay going for crazy money compared to the origional price. :shock:

Recently I saw the free Gemini catalogue on ebay. The fellow had really give it a good write up as there were 2 fellows bidding on it! It eventually went for just under £8! Not bad for a freeby :roll:
