is there any worth while marks around the cork and kerry area to target tope from the shore. my father proclaimed to have one from the black rock near banna in kerry but i didnt witness it and there were no pics????
anyway im hoping to add a few new species to my list this summer and the tope is one of them. ive seen in the tralee bay sea angling clubs page they give a few marks. has anybody else had any success down around that area.

Yep, back rock in banna is a known mark...

Better would be the very ends of inch and rossbehy strands in kerry - long walks mind! stringrays possible later in the year too

FWIW...

From what I understand it's late may and most of june for shore fishing for Tope in kerry including the Shannon Estuary. Is this correct?

Hi lumpy,

Don't know anyone who fishes the black rock for them but it makes sense I suppose. Was he on the small outcrop of rock down the beach (that get's completely cut off a couple of hours either side of high tide) or the bigger rock (it gets cut off around HW on the bigger tides too), kinda like a small island a couple of hundred yards further up nearer to ballyheigue. Here's a pic of that one:

This whole strand from barrow harbour up has some great turbot on it in places, would be interested to know exactly from which rock you were getting these and when.

Incidentally, if it's the bigger "black rock", there's not too much clean ground fishing available here as it's surrounded by alot of low rough but offers some good plugging for bass mid flood to high tide.

we used to do most of our fishing on the left hand side of the river/storm drain that flows down there. its been a while but if my memory serves me correct there was a small kinda reef to the left as well. its been a couple of years since i fished there. also saw a fella loose a double figure bass from here.
as regards turbot we had our best fishing in the channel to the left of the golf course think its the enterence into the harbour.
