Malahide estuary

Does anyone fish the inner estuary?,never seen anyone trying,I’m sure it’s full of mullet eels and flounders, would spinning for bass/trout be a waste of time?,also can anyone provide info on access to the viaduct,is it possible or is their trespassing/legal issues?

There are sea trout but they tend to be very hit and miss from the shore. I have kayaked out in the middle of the estuary and have come across them feeding on the surface but they tend to move around a lot so can be hard to track down. The inner estuary itself is very shallow with a lot of silt and mud, typically a lot of fresh water as well so aside from sea trout I’d imagine there are flounder in abundance but haven’t tried catching them given how many crabs are in the estuary! I would imagine kayak fishing close to the rail bridge on an incoming tide would throw up something though...it’s on the 2020 to-do list!

Interesting reading,it’s a sad reflection on the dwindling stocks ,the boyne river bass we’re especially interesting it’s hard to believe how far up they used to be caught it was practically fresh water
