Dun laoghaire today 11.00am to 12.00pm. High tide at 1.40pm, gave it a go as it’s a 4m tide today and I was hopeful it would bring a few fish. Had a dozen and packed it in as they were tiny 15cm to 20cm, will make great pike baits though. Place was packed. Seen about 100 fish caught, all tiny, the odd pan sized fish here and there.

3 hours fishing from the shore near Kilcar on Saturday. Not a mackerel to be seen! Must have something to do with the amount of floodwater coming from the estuaries.

Think you are right. Waded actual stream and waterfalls on Saturday to do a bit of rock fishing and we didn't see anything bar a doggie on the bottom to squid and a single wrasse to crab. Wind kicked up a lot and veered westerly which rolled up a bit tide to produce massive white water. Think it was too rough for the fish to be honest!

Dun Laoghaire yesterday
Started fishing 2 hours into the flood, put in an hour, had 8 fish on the sabikis, 4 pan sized and 4 for pike bait. Lots of people fishing, seen another 10 or 12 fish caught while I was there, mostly very small fish.

Seems to be a lot of tiny mackerel around at the moment. Is that normal?

Loads of them in the last few days! I am stocked up on bait. Table full of fresh macks and all neighbors who eats mack are happy. Happy that this years mack numbers hasn't gone down in the mark we frequently go to since May.

Plenty in the harbour from the boat, out the rock at Fountainstown over high water would be my choice.

Plenty of small mackerel in Clogherhead. Most are too small to take although they would probably make good pike bait. Personally I just put them back, although the seals usually take them.

A nasty story: I was in Clogherhead yesterday afternoon when a regular, characterised by his loudmouth behaviour, suddenly leaned over with one of those heavy-duty catapults (the type the gardai describe as an offensive weapon) and fired a rock at one of the seals, a big bull seal. While I'm sure his layers of fat protected him from serious harm, hitting him on the head could kill him, or take out an eye or smash teeth, which could result in his death. Of course, I objected, and then this little sh*t got into my face as though I had been the miscreant, threatening to throw me in. Spoils the enjoyment of the fishing but at least I had to leave so I didn't have to hang out there with him. I just don't get it - nobody thought it was funny and it certainly didn't get rid of the seals, so it seemed to be purely vindictive and abusive of a helpless animal. Dick!

Not a fan of seals myself but that kinda behaviour isnt right. You should have fired him into the sea. The prick

Lads it is pretty much the same in Wales this year. Mackerel have been few and far between. They are just starting to turn up in numbers now but lots of Joeys and undersized fish among them.

I got 1 decent sized yesterday in Clogherhead. Otherwise it's all tiny little things.

A few hours on Wednesday afternoon in Dun Laoghaire, West pier, around high tide. A few lads swinging feathers, no catches except for one guy pulling a single full house of decent-sized ones. Zero before and zero after. Weird, but a beautiful day nonetheless!
