Going back home this weekend so swapping my 4/0 hooks for 4s. I might just hit the pier for a few hours but might make it as far as Ennereilly. I'll only have an old beachcaster I've left up above so casting will be limited to 70 yards.
Is there any bait in Frankies or the shop down the docks.

Hi, can't really help you with venues as have not been out recently but Wicklow pier will probably produce a few tiddlers.
As for bait Frankies won't have any live bait like rag, they might have some frozen stuff but last time I was in there (October) they were running pretty low and I doubt they will restock till end of Spring, but not sure.
There ph.no. is (04)0469351.
Don't know about the place on the docks, only ever been in there 3 times and can't find their phone number anywhere. The sign for live bait outside is deffinitely gone.
Do they sell frozen stuff, and whats the name of it again... Rods n' Guns or something?
Sorry could't help with actual fishing but let us know how you get on.

Hi Col,
I think the rods and guns place does frozen bait as well. I'll have a look in when I'm there. I suspect as you say would be on short side at this time of year. I'll try and sneak a pack of sand eel into the childrens cool bag for the journey up
Not expecting much but as I'll be so near the sea I just can't not fish. I'll let you know how I get on.

Hello there Donagh. I fished Kiloughter, just north of wicklow town, on Sunday in daylight and it was pretty poor. Micro dabs and whiting and itt was even a struggle to get them!

Hi Donagh,
Most of our shore comps this year have been very poor. Wth average 7 men fishing over 6 comps we only managed 200 fish in total mostly small whiting this is only counting fish 20cms or more. The biggest round fish caught was 36cm pollock and biggest flat 24cm dab. Pretty poor fishing eh? We fished Bray seafront, Greystones, Newcastle, & Kiloughter. Why dont you call Viking Tackle in Bray for bait tel:- 2869215 and talk to Mick or Gerry.
Let us know how you get on anyway.

Hi Donagh,
Sorry I cant help with bait but as far as the fishing is concerned it is not all doom and gloom, Fish after dark and you will be in with a much better chance of getting something. Arklow has lots of small fish with the chance of something bigger besides dogs on the odd occasion. I have found the same pattern all along that coastline. Wicklow pier has deep water in close and agian there seems to be plenty of small fish there with the odd animal thrown in (though I have not fished it recently). Long casts are not needed. I hope to be down your way in April and will be hoping for some advise from you then.
Good luck

With the wind and weather the way it was I didn't make much of an effort to fish. I was going to try wicklow pier but I didn't consider it safe let alone comfortable place to fish. Frankies had a lot of mackerel, predator sand eel and squid but I had a packet of sand eel up with me which did me for the small bit of fishing I did. I called into the rod "n" guns place I never looked into bait there but the guy had a good Idea have what was catching and well worth talking to. He said there had been good catchs in a comp up the murrough the previous week and a few in the know had some bass localy. I did make it over to Enereilly Sunday morning making a big trek and then realizing my trace wallet had fallen out of my bag back at the house. Went back and got it and tried to fish travelahawk beach in the town but weed made it unfishable finally just drove back out to the beach marked signposted as Enereilly and fished underneath. I did this more to try out my old beachcaster that I fixed up over the weekend to be left permanently in wicklow. Its as floppy as they come and I could get max 40 yards with a 3 hook flapper and it bounced around in the undertow. There were a couple of lads there packing up from a night session that had been quiet so I didn't hang around for more than an hour and a half.
Thanks for the advise. I'll be back up in May for a few day the weekend after the bank holiday. I'll try and see if I can squeeze a proper rod next time but with child seats it mightn't be possible.
