Rock Marks within an hour or so of Dublin

Hi All,

Newbie here, So will be looking for advice from time time, I do a fair bit of Freshwater fishing (Coarse, Pike and Fly fishing for trout)

I'm looking to do a bit of light rock fishing for Pollock and Wrasse using soft jelly shads and worms, have caught some Pollock off the rocks at the back of Bullock Harbour, but looking to try find some other spots around the coast North or South of Dublin where I might be able to try ?

Start either at Sutton (31* bus) and the entrance to the path at the Red Rocks, or start at the east pier in Howth and walk up the hill, to reach the trail head. alternatively you can take a bus to the summit and work your way down from there, with the additional option of the Bailey lighthouse, just don't fall foul of the rules around CIL property. If you do a search on the "nose of howth" or check the shore marks, you should find details of how to get out ot the split rock. Scary walk. Tricky climb. Not done it in many many years. Not for the faint hearted. But then no rocks marks worth their salt are...

On the nose, there is a reef at 2 o'clock which used to hold good pollack (good for Dublin) and a very long cast due east to the water below the stacks and bird colony would get you excellent wrasse, including specimens. Crab and ragworm best baits. Lots of conger. Lots of dogs at low water.

Cool, Thanks Kieran, guess I'll have to get the hiking boots on and have a look around Howth Head, is there any fishing of note off the rocks at the Martello Tower on the Sutton side ?

Once upon a time, at dawn, there were bass there... but I am talking decades ago. Not many but substantial. Might be worth a try, but early or very late.
Crab only. Lures might get something. Go past the Martello tower and the remains of the old RNLI boat station (if its still there!).

Your other bet is down the other end of the DART at Bray Head. No experience of it bar one trip for wrasse which involved abseiling on ropes so nothing I will be doing now! Might be worth a wander and a look. Try searching online here as there are some reports from the past...

Have a look at the rocks a bit further along the coast from Bullock Harbour towards Killiney. Some wrasse and pollock to be caught there.

If your going to howth have your withs about you the cliffs are lethal. One slip and it’s curtains. Is it worth it

There's video on youtube recent of two Polish (?) lads making their way down to the Split Rock... but no evidence they caught anything!

The rocks and kelp at killiney can throw up big wrasse and pollock to lures or rag or crab with the chance of bass at this time of year and you fish off a beach into foul ground so no dangerous cliff hikes
