DUBLIN / WICKLOW CHILD FRIENDLY MARK

Wed Jul 26, 2017 4:38 pm

Hi, I'm on the lookout for a child friendly (8 & 14) mark around Dublin Wicklow(I'm traveling from naas). Haven't fished the area in years and years....used to fish greystones harbour, but that's a new marina now, and dun laoighre north pier.

Last few years I've been going to makes from hook head to whiting bay and know the area well, was living in the area until last summer.

Not looking for any hot spots, just a child friendly mark with a decent chance of a few small fish or doggies, even a few crab would keep the 8 year old happy!!

Any ideas welcome!!

Arklow south beach would fit the bill. Usually throws up a few fish. You can drive down to the bottom car park and you should get a pull in along the road so that you can see the car. Handy fishing just yards from the car.

Nice one Eyes. Assuming though I need to fish at distance from the shore? My 8 year old probably has a Max cast of about 30 yards in him.....not much use unless there is a bit of a surf going I assume??

Wicklow pier is good for youngsters ... little pieces of rag on a size 6 hook will get you all kinds of species down the side . Mind you you're better fishing it when it's very calm. Pollock, wrasse, Black Bream , Mackerel , three bearded rockling... all show around this time of year.
I've used it to season youngesters over the years .. keeps them interested .

I second wicklow Pier iv had the neices down there the past few years catching lots of tidlers, I usually trow a bubble float on, and small hooks and keep the baits small you want to catch them not feed them  on a calm sunny day you can see the fish looking at and hopefully taking the bait :D
