Dingle Peninsula

Sun Apr 02, 2017 8:10 pm

Visiting Dingle Peninsula for 30th anniversary and will bring limited tackle. Since I'll be flying from the states, thinking about a 7 foot medium spinning rod (Cabela Salt Striker3 piece) paired with a Shimano 4000.
Will most likely toss lures from rocks, but may also try lures on the beach. From the youtube videos I've watched, I will have some plugs, metals, and "jelly lures." I've tried unsuccessfully to purchase the Bob Moss books over here.
So, my questions: Will that rod & reel be satisfactory? And sizes of lures: plugs 10-15 centimeters, metals about 1/2 ounce to 1.5, and jelly lures on 1/0 and 2/0 hooks? Any help is most appreciated.

You're in basically the right ballpark with your gear and setup. What kind o line have you got loaded onto that Shimano?

I'd be thinking of having one of it's spools with 20 or 25 lb braid for rocky marks, and one with 8-10 lb braid from the sandy shores.

One spool has 10 pound braid. I'll put 20 pound braid on the other!
Assume 20 pound flourocarbon leader should suffice.
Thanks.

My dates are 25 May through 20 June.

Also, to anyone who sends pm: I don't believe I've been on the site long enough to have secured "pm rights."

Unfortunateky Bob passed away last summer but his books were available in the bookshop in Dingle. Someone asked a question on Dingle marks here ttp://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=49384

Gordon

You need to check the dates for the bass ban in Ireland, think it may overlap with most of your holiday.
Be important that you are not seen to be targeting bass during that period.
In Kerry in a few weeks, hope to post a report or two...
