Galway/Clifden advice

Mon Feb 27, 2017 11:01 pm

I'm arriving in Galway tomorrow and heading out to Clifden for a few days fishing.
I'm primarily targeting a few flats, dabs and plaice in particular.
I will be bringing a bit of tipping bait and hoping to dig some lug when the tide allows.
Is there a tackle shop in the area?
Can anyone guide me towards a bait site and/or fishing spot?

This corkman is lost in the wesht

Thank you

probably best to hit Corrib Tackle in Liosbaun in Galway (not the cheapest!) before heading to Clifden, not sure there is a tackle shop there - someone else can advise.

Owing to the lack of a functioning sewage system in Clifden, you can still dig lots of lug but I'm not sure that you will want to? If you see my drift? Have not fished the White Lady or any of the marks for over a year, but hopefully some of the locals will put you right... GL

firstly don't go to corrib, its dear and poor quality - less and less gear for sea also
go to the aquarium in salthill, they have a shop for bait/tackle(and tropical fish/aquaria) there - good sandeels and black wraps
decent prices on end tackle too

you will catch very few dab and no plaice out in conamara at this time of year - unless someone else (gfkelly?) knows different

the beaches have all the flats gone out to sea and the deep water marks are all plagues of tiny coalies and a few dogs - maybe gf knows different!
sorry to paint a bleak picture

Stanleys on the main street is a well stocked tackle shop and also has frozen bait

Thank you all for your help and advice. The weather really hampered my fishing plans so I ended up doing hours of driving reconnaissance for the next trip!
I am bringing back some freshly dug Connemara lugworm which will be on their holidays in west cork on Friday morning.

Sorry partylikeits1969 only seen your post now so not much help to you now
The next time you are heading up you can give me a shout i will pm you my number
If the weather is bad there is nearly always a spot around that you can find a bit of shelter in or you can fish out of the boot of the car
As corbyeire said its a bit early for most flats but you will get a odd one about, its better from mid april on
