Man Cave

Tue Feb 07, 2017 12:03 am

So as I was out of work for a while due to illness and subsequently lost my job :x this week ive been feeling much better and decided to get into the shed and do some work on an area dedicated to my dedication!

Cleaning out was a pain but once I got up and running it really took no time at all - although all the stuff you see in the pics has just been moved to another pile of mess somewhere else, at least I have a clean area to work with.

Boarded out the walls for display and ease of access. Although it didnt turn out as nice as id have hoped but Ill re-arrange it by size or something again tomorrow and see if I can make it look a little cleaner. Ill also level it off etc for the rods to sit nicely.

Im going to have on the shelf, A fly tying station - (want to start bass fly fishing this year). A rig making station, and a good bit of space to work on. I will be adding a few compartment boxes (like the ones you get for screws and stuff - but for rig components) On the right hand wall and some line rollers too for handiness.

If I can keep my aul fella out of this section of the shed and away from a clean work space ill be doing well!

Few questions for you lads.

Any suggestions on the rod display to tidy it up?
Will my gear be ok like this long term? The shed is dry, but cold. should I take the reels in or would it make a difference over time?
Any other ideas or suggestions of what I should add that I havnt thought of yet?

Well done looks great....but....you're going to need a bigger wall for your fly rods

Sorry to hear about the job ardinn, that sucks.

Great job and the rod rack looks good. If it were me I would be very fearful of catching the rod tip in something in such a confined space, but maybe you are less clumsy than me!

would definitely 2nd this - if you don't plan to use for a while keep them away from moisture

Use the roof space for the rods, less chance of damage ,just put a few hooks on the beams

Re-considering the whole lot now - shed can be damp - not sure I want gear ruined, reels inside of course but worried about rods and any steel parts - opinions?

Tidied it up before my change of mind!

Your gear will be fine,I've had my stuff in a shed for years,I've had no damo or corrosion issues,it's a wooden shed unheated.dont forget fishing gear is designed to be used outdoors in various conditions

Thats true - Would your shed be damp at all?

It's cold I suppose but a timber shed will breath to a certain extent, just give the reels a good rinse and you could put the in the hotpress a while to dry them before putting in the shed

all my gear is out in a wooden shed hung up like yours. gets cold and do see some damp in it at times but rods and reels be fine.

Nice shed. My gear lives in a dampish Mayo garage. I give the reels a puff of WD40 after cleaning and store them in a plastic tool box. Rod rings and reel seats also get the WD40. Never have any problems with corrosion.

I leave bits of fishing gear in every room all over the house
If i put it in a man cave and she seen a big pile all together she would only start asking questions
