Crimp Swivels

Mon Aug 15, 2016 8:23 pm

I was in my local tackle shop looking for crimps to tie up some new 1 up 1 down rigs, but they hadn't any in stock but they did have these crimp swivels which are handy yokes but I feel like they're a bit overpriced and that buying crimps, swivels and beads separately would be cheaper in the long run. They're basically a small swivel with a crimp either side that you just slide onto the rig body and clamp down. €1.60 for five of them
Has anyone used these? The nearest tackle shop that stocks crimps is 35 minutes away!

I got some a couple of years ago, Mustad I think. Like you I thought they would be handy but the crimps would not fit the usual 60 lb leader that I use for my rigs. Tried them for boat rigs but they rusted pretty solid after a couple of sessions. Binned!!

KeymcG has it spot on....

Tried them... on lighter line for beach fishing because of the diameter issue... and found they were a liability. When you crimp you damage the underlying line, no matter how careful you are (and I was very careful) and when the line breaks, weed or fish, its inevitably at the crimp. Also binned. Avoid.

Thanks for that lads! Only bought them as I was desperate. They seemed to fit on 50lb line easily enough. Does normal crimping damage the line too? Are there any other options for snoods?
Thanks

Try Cross Line Rolling Swivels (3-way swivels) very strong and won't rust.
Size 10, 27kg should suffice.

After losing the biggest fish I have ever hooked, due to a crimp damaged line, I binned all my crimped rigs - I simply use swivels and stop knots now.

I dont think I'll ever get over it to be honest!

:(

I know that feeling well. I spent 2 years trying to get my first tope. When I finally hooked my first one I lost her on the second run because my swivel knot slipped. I never got over it but I learned a valuable lesson that day
