Hi.....new to the delights of fishing....can anyone recommend a reel suitable for mackerel fishing. Thanks

If it's for mackerel only then cheap and cheerful. As most of the time you will be fishing on piers or rocks where the rod and reel will often get dumped on the ground in the excitement of hooking a few mackerel.

Yeah cheap and cheerful is the job...match it with a decent rod...I prefer using a rod that will cast 2 to 3 ounces as it's lighter and not as awkward as some beachcasters that u see most lads using and will still have plenty backbone for lifting fish from a height off rocks and piers..you'll also get more of a fight from the fish and feel more feedback also..

You could also put braid on the reel instead of mono...you will be in much more contact with the lure and feel more of a fight...the downside is the price - it will be alot more expensive than mono and you wont get it in the same quantity either.....another thing to bear in mind is a metal lure will get generally get bigger mackerel than the feathers
