Cleaning a reel after a day's use

Well, having received my new beach reel, a Penn Affinity 7000, I went off to a local mark to try it out. I went to explore around the beach a bit and took an unforeseen swim after slipping on a rock, dunking my reel into the surf in the process. I wiped off any sand and dried it the best I could.
How would I go about cleaning it?

Check the screw on the anti reverse switch on the bottom of the reel. It was loose on mine. Seems to be on a few of them. If you lost that switch it would be a real pain

wash in fresh water and thats it if in good workinng ordier it, it was me id check its winding and locks in revirse and thats it im ruff on gear carry on thats fishing u need to use it some fells think they have the best gear but a fraid to use it red rods tenu rods ect there a joke most of them ,oil your reel as best u can drive on

After a normal days fishing , id just rise the reel with a damp cloth (freshwater) to get the salt off. Every now and then i add a drop of oil to the movable parts.

last time my reel took a dunk, i stripped it down, going by the schematics on the box and just making sure not to misplace anything. You can soak the bearings in lighter fluid . clean off the old (or in tyour case new!)oil and grease and then re oil/grease. I just added grease to the gears etc and oil to the bearings. worked for me . maybe wasn't necessary but didn't want to take the chance that saltwater had got in and would corrode it inside

put your reel in the hotpress for a couple of days.it will dry out.it should be grand after that.
