Should I or shouldn't I ?

Tue Dec 15, 2015 3:18 pm

Hi folks,
I have a bit of time off work and sitting in the house is not serving me well. I have been contemplating getting out for a bit of shore fishing but that weather is turning me off the idea.

I have been thinking of fishing between Dublin and Wexford, can anyone recommend an area to go to or would it be a waste of time even bothering considering the weather? Or have you any suggestions eg day or night fishing?

I know the lack of reports is a good indicator of the current fishing condition, but I have the bug to get out and want to maximise my chances. All suggestions welcome.

Thanks guys
Baz

check accuweather and see when there is a break in the weather, then if you blank at least you aren't soaked

all the freshwater doesn't help but im sure there will be flounder and rockling if you down the hook sizes and of course the pin whiting plague

my go to is xcweather.co.uk it has the wind speeds colour coded blue and green are grand anything more than that would be tough to fish in

You should. I don't have any advice on where to fish at the moment but any chance you get you should give it a shot. I'd fish after dark myself. If you choose Dublin maybe try Killiney area, if you go further south try somewhere you know you have deep water in front of you, cod fishing is brutal this year but you might get lucky and pick one up down south off a deep beach. I use Met Eireanns 5 day forecast myself. Tomorrow evening theres a break in the rain and light south westerly winds along the east coat with fairly high temperatures so it would be a pleasant evening weather wise if you decide to go.

Depends on what you're looking for but personally I think this time of year is good for a bit of pier fishing . Usually offers the best chance of a few species of fish, mostly small but better to be catching and sometimes you do hit a few decent fish. Definitely fish darkness to maximise chances with most fish coming from very close in.

It'll definitely be challenging! Only one way to really find out, maybe target any small breaks in the weather and have a backup plan/mark for a bit of general scratching around if the cod aren't there.

My post above really relates to my experiences around Dublin and Wicklow at this time of year.
