DogBass

Is the dogfish population getting bigger or have there always been as many as there are - in the last 2 sessions I have caught 28 dogfish! 12 and 16 over 2 nights, without a sniff of anything else.

If they are on the increase, could this be a real factor in the bass situation, that they are not around due to the fact that the doggies are mopping up everything around them.

I am not sea fishing a year yet so please excuse my ignorance on the issue.

It would take some doggie to catch a bass!
In some places doggies are a scourge. This could be down to the habitat. Also doggies are generally not retained by either anglers or commercials.... Makes you think what fishing could be like for other species if they were given a break!

I think 7ts just a poor choice of mark. I used to fish near clonakilty and in deep water on one side of the head there were loads od doddies and I never caught one on the other side of the head, less than 400m away

Exactly - I Have a friend who keeps birds of prey and now has a sea eagle so he has asked me to keep him any dogs I get so from now on I will.

But if people were to take dogs, what would the impact be.

If say 100 anglers decided to take all dogs they catch for the next ten trips - and say they catch 10 a night - thats 10,000 dogfish.

Is it something worth looking at or would it be detrimental??

Unfortunatley you get years when their is loads of them this year being one of them.I fished 3 or 4 times a week last year for most of the year and caught the odd one here and there this month alone i must of caught well over a hundred so much so i couldnt be arsed fishing unless there is a good surf running they seem to prefer calm conditions at night
