Hi
I cant find a specific place to put this so maybe it goes here - Mods can move if needs be.
Im looking to get a new beach rod - I was looking at the shimano vengeance surf, I am a beginner and reviews are mixed so I was wondering if anyone had first hand knowledge or could recommend a rod at similar money.
It's €120 in my local TS but will probably get it cheaper maybe €110 or near enough the ton.
I'll be using my own FS reels which are poor enough until I get some money together for a quality reel so It's the Rod im looking at at the moment.
Any and all suggestions welcome.

My advise would be to look for a 2nd hand rod. There are some bargains to be had out there if you look around. Fishing gear depreciates as quick as a new car. Id rather spend €100 on something decent thats 2nd hand but in good nick, than on something new. Adverts and done deal would be a good start.

Era done deal is a bit hit and miss. My only advice would be not to go spending a fortune when you're not certain on what you want - you'll only end up getting something that won't suit you.
You can buy second hand here and do well- I got an excellent rod off the for sale section here.
If you go to your local tackle shop and tell them what you're looking for and your budget, you won't go far wrong either

Hey
Thanks for the reply
I have been doing that but my main problem is I dont know what I am looking for exactly. I'm shore fishing for the usuals at the moment, Flats, Cod etc but want a rod that will take bigger fish like good smoothies or tope if possible when the summer comes.
I am not sure of the basics as I have just started, Graphite or fibre? flex?
As I said I was looking at the 12ft Vengence, but thought it may be a bit stiff at the tip. Or is that a good thing

If you cant think of a rod to get you can also suggest ones to avoid. Brand names, styles etc.
Thanks

You'll land smoothies on any beach rod. You'll need a good reel if you want to catch Tope though.

I'd be going 13.6 to 15 foot, you will get better distance, a rod with a match tip and a heavy tip is a great investment, the salt 15 foot is a good starter rod if you don't want to spend a fortune the choice is mindblowing in a good tackle shop, so are the prices lol , some lads like a stiffer rod for distance work but if you can't bend it you won't cast as far as with a softer rod, it's all about personal preference, casting style and what you fish for.
