How Do You Keep Warm?

Sat Dec 13, 2014 3:21 am

Hi. I was out on a beach recently and i was very cold. It made the fishing a little less enjoyable!! I had 4 layers on yet I was still cold. What keeps you guys warm? What's the best warm jacket out there? I want it!!

All the floatation jackets are good. Make sure feet are warm heavy socks, neck warmer & a flees hat.

Just like cod chaser said, i find the floatation jackets great. After that head and feet. A good hat, pair of neoprene socks for the boots and you should be a lot warmer.

Sundridge sleepskin thermals for under your clothes. Padded overalls and a good jacket and hat. Gloves too.

layers, and lots of them - thermal, woollen, waterproof and wind proof. body warmers included.
thick socks, good boots or wellies, water proof leggings, woolly hat, scarf and/or face scarf if need be, fingerless neoprene glove too.
warm coffee from a flask. food! (i think food can be one of the main things). keep active.

sometimes i think that if you are tired or not in a full energetic mood then you become colder quicker.
i have been out fishing in sub-zero conditions and have been completely warm but on other nights just can't get warmed at all. but most of he time there isnt a problem
if you feel the cold then head for home

Go out and spend 30 Euro on a sealskinz hat. There windproof waterproof, and are fated up to 4 on the thermal thingy majiggy. Which means it's warm up to -30+. You lose most your body heat from your head and feet, so pair the hat up with good thermal wellys and that's most off the job done. Then get a good bib and brave.

I have the same one , and yes it will keep you warm and dry if your going to get a floaty suit the two piece are best . And wear what you would on the beach when you go to buy one so it fits with room to move they do loosen up with wear but a tight suit is no good for casting .
I just got a balliy too so that's the neck and face covered.
And for extra warmth a flask and some cuppa soups are the job. Hope this helps.

A good hat as sparkie says Dave, neoprene socks inside your welly and I recently bought the new imax smock (blue one) and wear a bib and brace. The new iMax is ridiculous, I had to take it off for five minutes to cool down last week. It has neoprene inside cuffs with outside rubber cuffs that ratchet closed to keep your wrists (pulse point) warm and dry! double fleece lined all over as well. Might as well be wearing the Lagan jacket off the hot tank. Unbelievable piece of kit.

I was thinking of getting that new blue imax smock, but the shop that had it only had big sizes...and they're all gone now!!!

Are flotation suits not a bit unnecessary for beach fishing? Aren't they supposed to be heavy?
