Hello all.
Iv been away from fishing for a few months now but Im heading to Youghal tomorroww, Woohoo!
Just a few questions:
When fishing ferry point what are the best tides and am I fishing from the point across to the harbor direction ?
If I fish the beach is it in front of the old perks and what tides are best ?
Is greenpark the small park across the road from the hotel ?
Any help with this would be great

Ferry point low & small tides are best. Fish 2 hrs before low & 2 hrs up. Beach in youghal fish at low tide up. Green park or the band stand as it's also called directly across from the Walter rally hotel. Hope this helps tight lines

Youghal beach would not be a great day time venue

As cod chaser said 2hrs either side of low is best for ferry point, if your fishing that point any other stage of the tide it would be difficult to hold the bottom, unless you more away from the point and fish the side looking out to see, best of luck anyways.

I have been away from the sport so long the few fish I had done me fine and something for the pan was a bonus.Ill try monkstown on Wednesday and see how that goes.We fished ferrypoint from 5 to 8.30 with had nothing until the turn. The cod were very small but the whiting were pan size.I think they might be my favorite eating fish

I fished front strand from low water (6pm) to about 8.not a touch. There was the most perfect surf too and no wind it was like something out of a dream- except for the lack of fish!

Same here fished the green park Sunday i had a single cod and not even a tap on my rod i put out for ray, i switched to ballycotton and had non stop action with whiting and dogfish and i managed a single cod better than sitting on my hands.

Good man Dave, change venue rather than be defeated!
What baits go well in Ballycotton- I assume you were down the pier?

I went with razor, mackeral and squid cocktails and separate on one rod for whiting dogfish and whatever using 1 up 1 down flappers size 2/0 hooks , other rod used peeler on pulley pennel but i didn't start casting that one until dawn as the tide turned i got the cod then. Fished the pier.

All baits work there i was using lug also. Instant bites on lug frantic little pulls, was thinking dabs but i didn't have any small rigs with me to find out i was geared up for Youghal cod and ray.

They must have taken Sunday off - there were plenty of fish about on Monday night, I had 21 cod up to 4.25 lbs, most 2 lbs +

Yes the same one, but was quite enough initially until a couple of hours into the rising tide, then an onslaught on hungry fish for an hour and a half before quitening down again. Picked up close to high tide with the last five fish including the largest of the night.
Did you loose a pulley rig there? I hauled in one very similar to the rig you recently described somewhere on the site, with a red hook.

Fished Youghal Beach on Saturday night, only one Codling caught at 44cm which took a sandeel but we had plenty of decent whiting, doggies and 7 painted Ray up to about 10lb, mb3 had a double of painted on his 3rd or 4th cast
Fished the river the day before hand we had about a dozen Cod between the 2 of us most averaging 1.5lb biggest about 3.5lb, was slow enough fishing we gave it a good lash for about 6 hrs.
