Best online tackle service?

[*]I've never bought tackle online as I've always bought from my local tackle shop but I like looking at tackle online and was wondering what the delivery was like from the likes of veals, gerrys and Glasgow angling centre? Are they any cheaper after postage and how long does it take to arrive?

I've bought from all of those you've named and to be honest, there's not really that much savings to be made these days, companies have to stay competitive so usually your local/irish stores will price match those UK ones. even if they don't have an online shop, call your tackle shop and they'll take payment over phone and post them to you relatively cheaply, I've done this with Rorys, southside etc, before they had online shops.

I've used GAC many times before. Recently I ordered a new rod around 2pm on Thursday and it arrived at my door the next day around 3pm. www.pecheur.com is also good, takes about a week.

Never had a problem with Veals either.

Henrys in Dublin was excellent the only time I've bought from them - a particularly hard to find hp lure.

Lureshop.eu were equal to any of them.

Henrys are excellent and you'll get great advice if you drop in or give them a call. They have serious quality lure fishing tackle if you are into that, but also carry a good range of general fishing tackle. I've actually stopped questioning their recommendations because they have never given me a bum steer. They are both highly experienced anglers and you just know that if they are recommending something its because they have used it themselves and it works.

I have used Veals over the years and found their service absolutely faultless.

Have used Pecheur and Lureshop.eu sporadically in the past and both are very good and carry extensive ranges, post is either free (depending on amount spent - Pecheur) or cheap (lureshop.eu). They are both very reliable and you can buy in confidence.

It's inevitable that you will find stuff cheaper online in other countries when compared to Irish tackle shops. That's where haggling comes in! Personally I prefer to at least give them the chance to strike a good price and I have rarely been dissappointed, I'd say I buy 95% of my stuff locally these days (ignoring secondhand stuff). Buying locally also gives you surety should something go wrong. But as has been pointed out in other threads, sometimes there are deals online that are just too good to refuse. I also appreciate that not everyone has the option of shopping locally or has the likes of a Henry's Tackle, Swords Angling Centre etc etc on their doorstep.

was in southside angling the other day, bought some stuff,other stuff I wanted to get once i got home (mayo) so all ya 've to do is give em a bell,they'll give you a decent competitive price and postage is €5, or free over €100... can't bate supporting irish companies! =D

Supporting irish companies are you haven a laugh? They are way over priced and i do 90% of my tackle online when buying high end gear online is the only way for me

That's mental, I deal with 3 different Irish tackle shops and they're cheaper than anything I can find online, they even have shiney frozen sandeels and peelers when I need them. Hard to put a price on attitude and loyalty these days but if your tackle shop values it you'll be sorted. As far as the original post goes, whatever it is your looking at, ask your local shop what's the best price he can do it at, if its a little and I mean a little, we're not talking huge savings here, then weigh up how valuable their advice, bait, lures, rig gear and rods are too you, you can't pick up a rod online and feel the tip reacting with its butt stuck to your elbow. You can't walk around online for a half an hour on a Saturday morning and see the shimmer on a feed shallow under a light. We're Irish residents fishing for Irish fish in Irish waters it makes sense to strike a relationship with an Irish company who will look after you if you if you're a regular, remember fishing is a pastime, you will spend an awful lot of money in 60+ years, personally I'd like to know the man who's taking my money off me if I ever have an issue.

I know it's a late reply but this just sums it up. Get it cheaper but where are the internet companies when you need last minute bait or that bit of advice. Support your local tackle shop whenever you can.

That said I do use mail order now and again for bits and pieces I can't get and Veals never let you down.
