What line for general shore fishing

Wed Nov 12, 2014 10:51 pm

I bought a new reel yesterday. In the winter i fish for codling , whiting and flats and in the summer i fish for bass (which i never caught yet ) and flats. So im wondering what breaking strain line is best for this kind of fishing and what is a good brand of line to buy
thanks in advance

That all depends on the ground your fishing over but try go for a line around 0.35 0.38

As Shane says above.

Thats generally 15 - 18lb breaking strain. Suffix Tritanium, Daiwa tournament, Ultima F1, Berkley Big Game are all good brands.

Best of luck.

Don't forget a quality leader too, A good quality shockleader is equally as important as the mainline.

Theres not much point in buying line in lbs as a lot of companies market them different. 19lb line from one lot could be no stronger than 15lb from someone else. Best option is to buy it in mm.
.35m is good for general shore fishing.

I personally use Sakuma Nite Crystal 14lb line, diameter of .31mm and it is good value. Very visible at night time and it's had no problem hauling big fish up on piers. I wouldn't use anything much heavier, you won't catch anything near that size and it doesn't have a problem pulling my weights or hooks out of tough snags.
For my snoods I use amnesia 10lb, once again won't need anything heavier and to be honest I could go lighter if I wanted to.
