Budget Rod and Reel for Beach Fishing

Tue Nov 04, 2014 2:18 pm

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a Rod and Reel for around £60-80 to try my hand at the Cod this Winter.
I've had a look online but haven't had a hands on look at any yet.
Any suggestions?

Honestly I just use my spinning reels.
30gr float thrown out with 2 10gr jig heads covered in mack or lug

I'm looking for a rod to cast around 4oz and a bait, for beaches and night time, I use my spinning rod for lightweight fishing but as it comes into winter I'll need something more heavy duty.

if you plan to fish the estuaries and strong currents you will need to look at something around 6oz

What would be the best weight for casting?

For cod as said above in estuaries/currents you'd want a rod rated for 4-8 oz. Forget about spinning gear. All depends then are you wanting to use a multiplier or a fixed spool reel.

Would a bass rod be suitable, or would a beach caster be a great improvement?
