Has anyone fished these marks lately?

looking to try a new mark this saturday night. have one of these four in mind. Aghada Pier, Carlisle Pier, White Bay, and Roches Point. Just wondering if anyone has hit up any of these marks lately and lokking for any and all info i.e. can ray be caught there this time of year or anywhere this time of year and anything worth mentioning from these marks or any other marks around cork harbor. If not I'm just gonna head to De Wall as usual.

Hiya Dan,

Few small Codling to just over a pound showing off the deepwater quay at Cobh fished with Phanover last friday. Those and some very small Coalies (we think!). No sign of anything bigger than that, kept a fillet of mackerel close in on a second rod and the only thing that picked up was a half pound bucket mouthed codling!! (greedy sod :D )

Let us know how you get on any way, Ive totally gone off fishing the wall as have been plagued with small stuff recently down there.

thanks for that, but tired of getting harrassed by the young ladies at cobh.hahaha was out at de wall couple weeks ago when all of the small fish had gone missing and nailed 5 good sized doggies and a 10lb conger. I had been wanting to catch a conger no matter the size. so I have done that so now I will focus on bigger conger, but I think I want to focus on ray now and looking at the species list it seems that the ray are only around from April on. Is that the case?

any idea where to get ray in the cork area dan. from clonakilty my self n been struglin to get ny results

Hows it going Dan. Dont know about Cork Harbour but theres ray to be had from Brandon pier at the moment. Mackerel or sandeel's the man for the job. HTH

Couldnt tell you how far it is from cork Dan, but its about a half hour drive from tralee if thats any help.

if ya go tru tralee its about 21/2 ta 3 hours depending on traffic from the city. theres another way as well but not certain. check an os map id say

thanks for that lads found it on the shore mark list and I have a really good map at home and will hit it up sometime. this weekend looking to go a bit closer to home and if I were to go out to brandon bay I would charter for some of those huge skate and six gilled shark I've read so much about. I'm told there is ray in cork harbor near crosshaven and the other side of the harbor mouth near whitegate, but not sure if they are there only in season year round or what. ray, conger, doggies I'm happy.

hey dan i got an email from a lad who fishes the 'airport' stretch at Bantry he said hes had ray, mainly thornback to 12 pounds from there. no its a bit of a drive but its not the first time ive heard of them from there.

FWIW...

whitegate requires a long cast - 130 metres - to hit the deep water channel so unless you can handle it try crosshaven.

does anyone know if they get the huss at the airport in winter too?

Just in from a session at the Car park in Monkstown. If tonight was anything to go by, I'd give it a miss on Saturday. One small codling was all I had to show for 4 hours fishing. Other lads down there reported much the same.

thanks for that info guys. will definately have a session or two on the airport stretch next time i head out towards west cork. definately going somewhere in cork harbour this weekend.

do you still need a long casts (130m) for those other marks I originally mentioned? i have the longest cast of all my pals, but no idea of the distance. definately over 100m.


i prefer the doggies and conger more than the tiny codling i have caught at de wall and found that a few weeks back when the whiting and codling were not around that i had more luck with my targeted species. keep in mind i have never caught a codling over a pound so that might have something to do with it.
