poor main line and crack off

Right so im looking for so advice on a good quailty mainline for a multiplier and a good quality leader and leader not. Im using surfix .35mm clear 19lb main and diawa tournament tappered leader in 60lb. Not to impressed with this as leads to crack off during casting. Any advice greatly appreciated

There's nowt wrong with the line or leader your using you cant get much better quality. so maybe its your casting and reel set up that's causing you to crack off

Ive only recently changed to surfix from another well know brand and have just started having issues. I would only class myself as an average caster at best with mags set to a mediun speed otg casting. Any possible ideas on reel set up i can try out this evening.

To be honest sufix is a tried and tested high quality line so i don't think your going to fix anything by changing to a different brand. Try casting with mags on full the 525s are fast enough there is no need to be casting them on a medium setting even when pendulum casting medium can be a bit too fast also strip your reel and oil your bearings if the oil has burnt off it will cause the reel to run faster than normal causing crack offs

Reels are oiled and cleaned after every session. Maybe a tad overboard but i like to lookafter them. Mags full on it is and see how i get on. I have read alot about suffix and all seems to be good.

It's nothing to do with the leader as the tapered end is miles away from the business end. It's possible that your knot is catching in one of the rings but it's definitely a puzzler. I've used Daiwa Tournament mainline and Penn leaders for the last 20 years without any issues. I really don't remember the last time I had a crack off. It's also possible that the line is weak. If it was exposed to sunlight while in the shop it could easily be well below the breaking strain. Buy a new spool and see what happens. If it's still happening then unfortunately it's down to your technique. But I agree with what's been said earlier, Sufix is tip top.

Thats a fair point on the breaking strain with sunlight damage i never considered that angle. Ive had no issues with the knot as far as i know but thanks for the advice. Ill replace whats on the spool and see how it goes. Ive rarely suffered crack off til now since going to suffix but all i hear is good about the line so must be my knot or as you said uv damage to the line.

If its not old or damaged line possibly bad line lay or un-smooth casting style....

Is the line snapping at the knot or on your mainline? Check the rings on the rod too. One of them might be cracked and causing damage to the line?
I use tritanium in .30, .35 and .40 and never had any problems, all on fixed spool tho. I did hear of a few people having issues with the yellow a few years back but ive always found it ok. I pulled in a clump of weed about 20lb at the weekend comp on the .30 with a tapered leader and it held up so no issues with line strength.

Hi red. Ya heard horrible stuff about the yellow/red. Its breaking on the mainline as i found out on the field lastnight. It maybe that the spool of line i got. Was given to try out instead of the f1 i was previously using. It may have been lying around awhile even though it was unopened and not used. Buying a spool this afternoon and see how it goes. How do you find the .40 for casting?.

To put spanner in works ive been using both yellow&red tritanium for years and never ever had an issue and since the red stuff gone very hard to source ive been using the yellow mostly and no bothers at all but im a freak for respooling my reels every 4/5 sessions depending on terrain ive been fishing.
If the line is still giving issues then maybe something along the lines of Berkley big game or daiwa sensor are good and tough and wont let you down unexpectantly.

Thanks for the reply beach buddy. A friend has used the red and was also disappointed with it and changed to clear and no issues. Any sign of damage to my line and its changed with a change every 6 weeks which is about 5 sessions so we are equal on that score. Done a basic breaking strain test on the old spool it snapped at roughly 11/12lb. The new snapped at 20lb+. So im putting down to a poor spool of line. Few casts lastnight with the new and an albright knot to the leader and no issues with a 6 1/4 oz lead.

Just an idea check the ceramick rings in the eyes on the rods I had this problem a few years back and found the slightest. Nick in the ceramick disk in 1 of the eyes on my rod was catching and burring. My leader knot new to this forum so hi all and was just an idea

Thanks for the reply tigger. The rings are all good. It boild down to poor mainline. Have been out twice since and no issues at all since replacing all line with a fresh undamaged line.
