Lads how long can you keep frozen mackerel.

As in are they ok to freeze for a couple of months then thaw out and consume.

Might be a stupid question but just like to know.

I think once frozen you can keep for a long time but would like to know how long ?

Thanks in advance

Hi,because of their oil content mackerel, though they freeze ok,don't thaw out as good as fresh.4 weeks should be grand, after that they lose their sweetness and become "fishy".Personally I eat them within 24hrs of when I catch them.

They are not worth freezing as they loose their taste after about a week.

you can eat them no bother, they just wont be as tasty.
all these best before for frozen stuff is nonsense - they are frozen - it may get freezer burn after a year but its still edible - just the quality/taste declines - does you no harm

now if its use by - then that means its bad for you after the date
