Ray fishing

I have spent the last month or so searching for a mark to catch ray from the shore, so far I've been to a good few west cork beaches and double that down east cork.
Most of the catches i see on Facebook post seem to be from Kerry beaches, am i wasting my time trying cork beaches for another month, any help would be great, thanks.

Hi Dave youghal beach is a know ray mark. Fish at the end of the car park were there is a opening from the car park on to the beach. Best fished on a rising tide at night.

Thanks codchaser we fished it 2 weeks ago at night we had dogfish and a strap conger, I might give it another shot over the next few days, I also have the carpark in clay castle marked out for a night session thanks again

Have been doing the same as you dave , fished about 5 different beaches east of cork including youghal and not a ray anywhere

Frustrating Morgan I seem to be hitting all the right spots but a little early

i used to catch a few thornbacks down east-ferry a few years back from the shore on the east ferry side just at the start of the river say heading up the channel,its kind of a low to half tide mark and the ground is rough outside so be prepared,might be worth a go

It is frustrating dave but sure we will find them soon and the above advice helps thanks guys . I haven't fished at night for them so that could be where I'm going wrong but don't get as much enjoyment fishing at night really I like to enjoy the surroundings as well as the fishing

you will double your chances of hooking a ray if you fish at night they are hard enough to catch as it is so try to maximize your chances by having weather tides and time of year in you favour. Twilight is normally prime hook up time

Is'nt DOD pier in castletownbere?

No joy in bantry, silver eel, 3 b rockling, dogfish and a load of small Pollock not a total lost

Dod pier is in Castletownbere right in the harbour. Mid distance casting required. On to mud and sand mix bottom mackerel. As bait have a buddy living there n fishes it regularly

lot of beaches in Donegal will produce rays,mainly thornbacks.
