Hi lads, first post so go easy on me!
I want to try for some a conger from either Coliemore or Dun Laoghaire harbour.
I believe the West Pier at Dun Laoghaire is a decent mark, somewhere near the elbow on the seaward side fromm what I've heard.
Any advise on a suitable rig? I was thinking 6/0 hook with 60-80lb mono trace would be heavy enough.
Bait wise I imagine lage mackerel strip or hunk of squid.
Much obliged for any advice or thoughts....

60 to 80 lb is too light. 150 to 200 lb is what you need to be thinking about. I've had small eels bite through 100 lb line. Or else use silicone tubing above the hook and pushed over the eye to keep it in place. About 6 inches does the trick. 6/0 or 8/0 hook is fine depending on bait. Whole squid, mackerel fillet, mackerel head or mackerel flapper if there are big eels around.

Sorry for the late reply lads!
Thanks for the advice. Settled on some ready made traces bought from Ebay; 150lb mono and 8/0 hook. Was at Coliemore Monday night, no luck myself but a guy at the other end of the wall caught this....

You can't really tell form the picture but it was a decent fish, I'd say around the 15-20lb mark.
