following reading an article on thornback fishing in england i was just wondering,
has anyone ever had much success using prawn/shrimp baits from our shores for any species?
tried them a few times, live and also the peeled frozen type.
got a couple of flounder on the ready peeled ones and the odd wrasse and haddock on the live ones but not in any real numbers.

Hi Phil,
I've used raw and cooked/peeled king prawns on a few occassions, I usually land LSD's with this bait.
They are not a preferred bait and I only resort to them as a back up option.
I have also notice that they tend to work better in the summer months (but that could be to do with the fact that there are more fish around.....)

Hows it going Phill,
Havent ever used them meself but I remember reports on this site about 18 months ago of somebody catching ray from Glenaveena beach in Howth using live prawns. If you do a search with these words you might find more.

Did use the fresh Indonesian prawn that you get in Sainsburys, couple of lsd's, a few pollack and a 41cm flounder. a bit expensive but if you can't
get some rag or lug they make an alternative to mackerel and squid.
A good going fishing at the last minute bait. at least it's fresh.

tried live prawn for the basses but the wrasse only love them so they do. fishing them under a float helps but wont stop the wrasses getting them.
