I do not know how old his lads are so will suggest places namely beaches within reach of Skibbereen.

Suggest he purchases Ordnance Survey Ireland Maps Discovery Series 88 (west of Skibbereen) 89 east of Skibbereen.

Map 88 Baltimore (Baltimore Beacon) rock fishing north east of the Beacon It is a hard slog going over the hill and care should be taken (ask the locals in the pubs in Baltimore) Other marks on this map are a distance from Skibbereen namely Barley Cove beaches and coves. Other marks do exist but this stretch of Coast is somewhat rugged and accessed with local knowledge.

Map 89 takes u east of Skibbereen to beaches including Ross Carbery (renown for its Mullet by the causeway) followed by Ownahichy Strand, Long Strand and Dirk Bay.

Bait. Fish shop on the outskirts Skibbereen ( signposted on one of the roundabouts) or the better one at Union Hall, go for mackerel or fresh squid.

Boat Fishing see Baltimore web site (6 miles from Skibbereen) numerous boats sail from there and the fishing is excellent, speak to Sean at the Algerian Pub for more info. If more detailed info required suggest you search the WSF site under the name cachalot for my past entries! I would very much appreciate feedback as myself and another are visiting In Aug/Sep for 16 days
