Hi Guys,
While hunting for some Mackerel off Howth I kept catching these guys (link below).
Self-professed expert fisherman a few rocks down assured me they were Sardines.
Could someone confirm?

look more like small herring to me, sardines usually have spots around the lateral line.

That's what I figured...just because I never heard of catching sardines from the coast.
They guy was adamant thought, I asked if they were Herring and he said no...sardines - 100%.

Look like juvenile herring to me.Pilchards/sardines are caught here off the south coast mainly.They are thicker along their backs and have spots on their sides.

There isn't actually a species of fish called a sardine! Once they're less than 6" long you can call them sardines
