Which Braid

Gents, I've used braid for spinning the last few years. I usually buy the cheeps I can find on Flee bay and that does the trick as long as the line is kept tight. I never really thought about any other braid but ...............are there any types of braid that do NOT get into knots, I was reading briefly about 8 strand and 4 strand braid, is there any one brand that is better or thee best braid. I use it for spinning for trout but I use mono for beach casting, this year I want to try the braid beach casting and see if its any better.

Get power pro braid the best out there .I also use it for salmon spinning in the river it's never let me down and casts very well

Yes, as braid is not allowed on the casting court, cant really comment....

Power Pro is a good solid braid. Stren sonic is a cheap alternative but probably a million times better than some of the garbage on fleabay. Suffix 832 is good quality, reasonably priced and I've had zero issues with it. Everyone will have their own favourite, on someone elses recommendation I've been using Fammell on my sea trout reels lately and love the stuff.

You can go more expensive than the above for lure fishing, but is it necessary for beachcasting? I can't answer that as I only use braid on my lure reels, so I'll leave that to someone else. I would guess the answer is no though.

Most braid users will have an opinion on braid - Statements like: -“ “Super Braid” is the best” are really only based on that anglers experience with that braid on their setup - It has nothing to do with the specifications of the braid itself! When you do not know: What the angler is doing with their braid, the diameter of the braid, the breaking strain, the reel etc...etc. In fact it all becomes meaningless when you throw the anglers casting ability into the mix too!

Put it this way - If I am using 0.25mm - Say 50lb breaking strain (Euro) on my light spinning rod I am unlikely to get wind knots - I am also unlikely to be able to cast a 10g jig head very far! Whereas an angler fishing 0.13mm may get an occasional knot (All depending on his gear and technique, IMO.). Is his braid worse or better?

There is lots of good braid out there. There are lots of forgeries about too. Probably better off buying locally to be sure.

Of course it all come back to the question: What are you going to do with your braid?

For trout fishing I always use 10lb braid line because I use very small lures (Mepps) but I have lost some good lures (Smith Cherry Blood) due to wind knots, these lures are not cheep but with out light braid its hard to get good distance. I suppose I'll have to stop being such a cheep skate and buy other braid and compare them , cheers for the feed back lads.

Power pro or berkley whiplash...both similar, both good....
