New Waders advise please

I'm looking for a bit of help. I'm looking at investing in a set of waders, can anyone please advise what types and makes I should have a look at. I don't mind spending a bit on quality so I'm not interested in something cheap and cheerful.

I only paid €110 for mine and bought them from dan in the halfway, http://www.tackledirectireland.ie
Not sure what he charges for postage but it probably works out cheaper than veals

Unfortunately I haven't had a good experience with vass chest waders[theres always one ]I only used them for fishing no bait gathering or donkey work and hung up after use. The seams around the knee areas started to crack and leak after a few months and now have at least 2 tubes of aquasure applied on each leg.
Now the flip side is most users have no complaints so maybe worth a punt.Currently saving the pennies for a pair of bass boots but its taking a looooong time

Ive seen beachbuddys and they are in bits. Not great value.
Mine have been used for about 7/8 months tho and are holding up well. Their a bit heavy and warm for daytime use in the summer. On a warm summers night i find a few damp patches around my shins and feet from sweat but no sign of any leaks yet. If i get another 3/4 months out of them id class them as been good value over any pair ive had before them.
If id seen beachbuddys before i bought mine i might have thought twice about buying them but he might have been unlucky and got a dodgy pair.

I've had a pair of vass 740s for over a year now still look like New and never let me down

there good not great im with alby bass boots im saving now for them i have the smock was in serious rain and never let drop in so if waders are any thing like smock cant wait to get them

What are you using them for? What kind of ground do you fish and what type of fishing (i.e. rock marks? bait fishing? lure fishing where you will be covering a lot of ground?). Will you wear them bait digging?

You really need to consider all of the above before you make any choice. If you are just beach/surf fishing, using them for bait digging etc but aren't going to be walking around much, then you are looking for something tough and built to last. A lot of people like Alby have used bassboots for quite a while and love them. I can also highly recommend Snowbee Wadermasters, they are quality, built to last waders. On the otherhand if you are going to be lure fishing and covering miles of ground then you might consider breathables. They need to be looked after and won't stand up to a lot of rough treatment though. I resisted the urge to buy a pair for years with all the commentary on how they fall apart etc. In reality if you buy a good pair and look after them reasonably well they should last you a couple of seasons depending on how much you use them. They are also FAR lighter and FAR more comfortable than any vinyl/neoprenes you can buy. You need to buy boots as well of course but thats actually an added benefit - rockhopping in waders with built in wellys is not something I am comfortable with having gone on my ear numerous times, its very easy to twist an ankle in them.

Something like the Snowbee wadermaster, bassboots etc would be a good all around starting point though. Whatever you buy - try them on first!

Top advice!

Of all of the waders mentioned, which have the shorter or wider boot that us folks with big calves (20 inches) can use. Had waders made to measure in the past, saving for the bass boots but may need some another pair before I have the cash saved.
