Hi all,
I was taking a walk today on Tramore beach after the storm, when i came across this fella. H was about 2 and a half feet long and looked like a deep water species to me. Can anyone ID it. A guy told me he thought it was a Gulper Eel but it has a different shaped head.
cheers, Tom.

Red band fish (this fish is certainly one) are indeed an uncommon catch, though can be caught slightly more readily from a boat if you're in the right place.
South-west (and south-east) coasts can produce them to boats especially in late summer, and if you can find a mark giving you access to deep water then you've a chance of getting one from the shore.
