lug is a much better winter bait than rag but as the weather warms up the rag will come into it more and more but if you are hell bent on bass then lug would be the better bait of the 2 also dont go digging rag until the end of march they are spawing at the moment and are not much good also crab and razor can be just as good for bass

dont leave them in soil/sand just put them in a bucket when digging and wash them at the end as for keeping them put them in a large contanier and just about cover them in fresh sea water and change the water every day but make sure they are in the fridge also keep the water in the fridge so its at the same temp as the worms that should keep them for a few day nice and fresh just keep a eye to them and take out any that look dead or on there way out

tyres are best layed in a muddy area where you think you might get crab just lay them in rows of 20/30 at a time but make sure you bed them in well or stake them down so the incoming or outgoing tide wont move them best to get a few down soon so you will have a starting point when the peel starts around the end of march/ start of arpil

but if laying them in a knowing bait area you would want to get to them early just as the tide drops of the traps as you will find that many a person will help themself to the crab if there is no one at them

best of luck

i personally wouldn't freeze the lug, I find salting them a lot better then freezing :)
