Hi me and the brother are heading to tralee again in February, this is our third trip and had no bass, just wondered if anyone can recommend a good bass guide for the area. Determined not to fail this time haha

Google kerry bass guides or "ullcatch". If them lads cant get ye bass then there wont be any around.
I dont know the area but february wouldnt be the best month for them. You will get them then but not the same numbers as in the warmer months.

Best of luck, i was also new to bass fishing last year, got 4 bass in around 8 outings which i thought was reasonably good. I had researched and talked with fishermen that i had known or met through business. They gave me the best haunts and through meeting people at these spots i gained a greater knowledge into areas and features that bass like to feed around. You cannot beat the knowledge you get from the older seasoned fishermen you meet. I find you should engage in conversation with all around you as you gain knowledge from them as they do from you.

Which brings me to a funny story - I had purchased savage gear lures from a local fishing shop in midleton, only to arrive back home and as i readied myself to go bass fishing realised he had gave me the gear i had rejected instead. Not to let it be a downer to me i said this could be a sign. So off i went with my sandeel lures and a bag of shimmer eels. For those of you that don't know what shimmer eels are - they are soft rubber eels about the width of a cotton budd plastic. Myself and my friend decided for the craic while we cast out lures we would float bait with a shimmer eel. 15 minutes in there was we both had taken bass. There was a glimmer of the full moon on the sea and my friend spotted a bass having a go for the shimmer eel, he picked up the rod and waited and sure enough the bass took it. A 3Lb bass was landed and released, we were a bit dumbfounded by what had happened but it had worked and we had learnt something new. As had our older friends that had never seen a bass caught on a shimmer eel that way.

Sorry if i bored you with my story i get carried away.
Best of luck with your bass trip i hope you catch a few.
