Winter beach casting\Fishing

HI all, Only my second post i think,............... anyway i have little knowledge of what species to fish for during the colder winter months. Can anyone advise on what species are along the northeast coast that can be caught from the beach this time of year or should i fish deep water. Do all species migrate? I thought that off the back of Clogher head might be a spot because the water is deep but I’ve no idea what’s there (apart from mackerel in summer). Any idea or feedback would be appreciated.

Whiting is caught almost everywhere during winter month, codling, coal fish and maybe pollock with be about...
Depends on the area really and the ground that you're fishing on..

Give it a bash, you never know the big one could be waiting for you..

The coastline ya speak of can be fairly barren this time of year especially louth and north Dublin but in saying that i used to fish around clotherhead alot about fiteen years ago when i had a mobile home up there and have landed the odd decent codling off the head in the autumn so it could be worth a try and if that fails its prob worth travelling south to sth Wexford Waterford or cork for some decent winter fishing ....

Clogherhead is full of tiny whiting, with small pollock and codling in close. Nearly all under 15 cm.
port beach to the north of clogherhead had lots of small codling and tiny whiting during the week again very small. port orial and termonfeckin to the south of clogherhead would be your best bet. Loads of flounder on both beaches at the moment with rockling and small codling but cast very short. Any more than 30 yards and you,ll be getting tiny whiting every cast. All the beaches up there usually only fish after dark.

Cheers lads, I suppose I’ll just have to get out and try, try, try. I'll stay local for now , off clogher head and see what showes up. I'll let ye know if i get anything........
